A Kansas Court of Appeals panel will hear oral arguments for two cases starting at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, at 蜜桃视频 Community College's Frahm Theatre.

Oral arguments are open to students and the public. Following the session, judges will meet with attendees to answer questions about the appellate process and the role of the Court of Appeals.

Judge Angela Coble will serve as presiding judge, joined by Judge Jacy Hurst and Chief Judge Paula Hofaker of the 17th Judicial District, who will sit by special order.

Hofaker began her judicial service as a magistrate judge in 2013. She was appointed district judge in 2022 and named chief judge in 2024. She earned her law degree from Washburn University School of Law and previously practiced law in Logan.

Kansas Court of Appeals Chief Judge Sarah Warner said the court鈥檚 outreach efforts strengthen connections with communities and the broader judicial system.

鈥淭aking the docket beyond our usual courtrooms allows students and the public to observe the appellate process firsthand,鈥 she said. 鈥淚t also provides an opportunity for collaboration between appellate and district court judges.鈥

During oral arguments, attorneys for each side will have 15 minutes to present their cases and respond to questions from the panel. The judges will then take the cases under advisement and typically issue written decisions within 60 days.

The Kansas Court of Appeals consists of 14 judges who generally sit in three-judge panels to hear and decide cases.

The 17th Judicial District includes Decatur, Graham, Norton, Osborne, Phillips, and Smith counties.
